How mattress sizes differ globally

US / Canada

North American beds tend to be wider at a given “name” than UK equivalents, and Queen is the most common upgrade size. California King trades width for extra length.

UK / Ireland

A UK “King” is roughly US Queen width (about 150×200 cm). Names do not transfer; compare centimetres before importing sheets or frames.

EU

Retailers sell by metric width × length; 200 cm length is very common. “Queen” or “King” on packaging may be a translation—read the cm line.

Australia / New Zealand

AU/NZ use their own grid: King Single (wider than a single, same length as King) is widely sold, and Queen/King cm sizes differ from US labels with similar names.

Japan

Domestic mattresses are often shorter in length (around 195 cm) to suit room layouts; semi-double and double are popular urban sizes.
